How long does filler last?
Learn the truth about filler maintenance and find out how often you’ll need touch-ups and how filler compares to a facelift. Ragan shares insider tips to help you make the right choices for your goals.
At Park Aesthetics, we often receive questions about how long results from dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane will last, and when maintenance treatments are needed. In a recent video, linked below, our founder and lead aesthetic nurse Ragan Gaskin covered the key details on filler upkeep that we want our patients to understand.
How Much Filler is Used Initially?
For an initial treatment, Ragan typically uses 4-10 syringes depending on the areas being treated. More significant volume loss or deeper folds may require more, while subtle changes need less. She assesses each patient individually.
What is the Longevity of Filler Results?
In Ragan’s experience, most patients can go 9-24 months before we recommend a touch-up. Some may need it sooner than 9 months if they have major weight/hormone changes or work out extensively. But in general, we tell patients they should be able to go 6-24 months before we replenish the filler, if we have completely treated.
What Factors Affect Longevity?
Things like fluctuations in weight/hormones, pregnancy, and intense exercise can make the filler break down faster and require earlier maintenance. Those who are very active often need more regular touch-ups.
What Does Maintenance Involve?
For maintenance Ragan finds that 1-2 syringes will restore the original results. We don’t have to completely start over with 4-10 syringes again. Touch-ups are replacing small amounts of volume loss.
How Does Filler Compare to Surgery?
While a facelift is more permanent, it also costs around $20,000 on average. For many patients, filler can provide beautiful improvements non-surgically for a fraction of that cost. We don’t see it as a facelift replacement universally, but it’s a great option for some.
We hope this breakdown helps provide clarity on what to expect with filler maintenance. While exact timelines vary, you can expect your results to last somewhere between 6 months to 2 years before follow-up treatments are needed. Regular touch-ups are part of preserving your look. Our founder Ragan Gaskin takes a customized approach to assess each patient’s needs and recommend the appropriate amount of filler to administer.
